How to Keep Your Air Conditioner Running Well Through the Fall

Your air conditioner has put in a lot of work this summer and we still have more hot weather to go. Just because the date on the calendar has switched over to fall doesn’t mean you’re through with your AC for the season. Keeping up with annual AC maintenance, while also following a handful of other tricks, can help you maintain your air conditioner while staying comfy too.

Clean Around Your Outdoor Unit

Debris can build up around your outside unit, particularly during the fall. When the time arrives to rake up the leaves in your yard, be sure to rake up the leaves and debris around your air conditioner. Debris can inhibit air flow, causing your system to work harder and wear down faster. We want your air conditioner to last as long as it was designed to.

Raise the Temperature on Your Thermostat

Have your thermostat set at the highest temperature you can while still staying cozy. Whenever possible, use other cooling methods such as fans. The lower you set your thermostat, the harder your system will have to work to attain that temperature. You may think switching off your system completely will save on energy and help your system, but that just creates more ground for it to make up when you flip it back on. It will have to work harder for a longer amount of time, which is something else that could lead to premature system failure.
