Snowstorms and Air Conditioners

March 17, 2016

We haven’t completely made it through winter in Grove City just yet. Mother Nature has provided us with a few nice days, but she’s always ready to remind us that she’s in charge. So when she does finally let up and it starts to warm up, read below so you won’t want to have to unexpectedly call a repairman out out for air conditioner service.

Heavy snowfall could bury your air conditioner in the snow, hindering its performance when the temperatures start to warm up for the season. Not to mention it can keep a high-efficiency system from running as such. The situation could become an even larger problem too if you don’t prepare for it with an annual air conditioner service appointment.

There are preparations you can do as a homeowner to help your air conditioner work correctly even though snow has fallen or could fall in the approaching days and weeks.

  1. Keep a 3-foot/1-meter clearance around your air conditioner. Walk around the area frequently to be sure that it stays clear and that there are no snow drifts or piles of debris that might have piled up through the winter.
  2. Contrary to what you may think, placing a cover over your air conditioner might end up doing more damage than you’d expect. A covered air conditioner could be inviting for rodents looking for shelter from the weather and start to call it home, possibly meaning damage to the system as they roam about.

While the weather in Grove City will most likely go up and down over the last few days of colder temperatures, you can’t count out the possibility of weather that can change the performance of your air conditioner. At Air Quality Solutions in Grove City, we are always available to take a look at any areas around your home or answer any of your questions, whether they’re in regards to air conditioner service or adding a new system.
